Hybris – Occult EP (Subtitles)- Studio Interview & Track previews

Hybris talks through his new EP on Subtitles being released next week. With an EP also coming out on dispatch next year it seems Hybris has been busy in the studio recently. Twisted and manipulated drum patterns along with futuristic basses is what to expect. His last few releases on Invisible/Dispatch/Revolution and the Prague Connection ep on Metalheadz have definitely left a lasting impression on the scene. Big things to come in 2013 from this producer.

Previews of the tracks:

Ant TC1 (Dispatch records) 2 hour studio mix on kane fm

Ant TC1 showcasing the Dispatch sound mixing up the oldschool with the new in his trademark way. You can always expect precise mixing and on point selection on his kane fm radio shows. New material from Cern, Hybris, Nymfo, Mikal and Survival.

Tune of the mix:  Cern – Hollow Moon.  (1h14:15)  Been looking for this tune since the end of the summer when skeptical opened his Sunandbass warmup set with it. Haunting intro evolving into an industrial grinding and the drop is something else. Flickering break over a fierce bassline. Sounds so clean and precise. Been absolutely loving Cerns output over the last few years. As ant says this is coming out in the beginning of the year. Definitely will be bagging this.

Survival & Silent Witness – Immortal (Dispatch free tune)

Survival & Silent Witness have given out this freebee because they said it didnt make the cut for their forthcoming album which will be released in Feb. By the standard of this tune here you can already tell that this album is going to be big. This is going to be a full on year for dispatch records release wise. Phil Tangent – Restitution / Squaring The Circle (SOULR059)

Phil Tangent has been a long time favourite for me. It seemed that while so many liquid dnb producers developed towards the classic cheesy sound that you hear everywhere these days, only a few actually stuck to the archaic liquid vibe, which I love. The first time that i heard of Phil Tangent was on a Lenzman podcast in 2010. He opened the mix with a track called ‘Lunar’ and i think it would be fair to say that he instantly got my attention. It took me over a year to find that particular vinyl so there was no way I was going to hang about when this one came out.

I have been waiting for ‘Restitution’ for a long time so I am very pleased it finally surfaced. I heard it first on a Random Movement podcast and hadnt ‘really forgotten about it until its release. Iconic Phil Tangent style. A mystical melody with a rolling break drops into a beautifully crafted bass line with soft, atmospheric strings. Listening brings on nostalgic feelings, like you are thinking of a fond memory. Very uplifting. This really is a masterpiece

The flip is a very different flavour. The simplicity in this track works very well. A haunting bassline with slightly darker sounding vocals sampled from Bjork. The whole thing comes together very nicely. During the second breakdown there is a repetitive sample that seems to be ‘turning’ in time with the vinyl on the turntable. Feels almost hypnotising!

All in all its yet another quality release from this producer on what is one of the best dnb labels out there at the moment. There’s not many releases i havn’t picked up from the Soul:r records output recently. 10 years deep, and still on top of their game. Big ups to Intalex on this one and looking forward to more Phil Tangent releases in the future.

Mute, Mako and the Sect – Dubbed Out (free track)

Hats off to the Utopia Music brothers, Mute and label boss Mako  along with the Sect who have given out this half step tribal monster for free. Deliciously dark laced with classic jungle samples. Wouldn’t expect anything less than the most forward thinking drums here. these three showing why Bristol is still the Mecca for cutting edge dnb.

Roy Green & Protone – 2 Hours / Think of you (DOWNTIME001)

Ive been loving all of Alignment Records’ output for some time now. Every release has been on point and the label has been exposing a lot of new talent so I’m always excited when something new comes forward.

I first heard of this Austrian duo recently from the ‘Drum & Bass on Demand’ compilation album along with a lot of other new names and you could tell that they had versatile talent.

2 Hours – Lovely blissed out piano samples laid over a warming bassline and a well crafted full break. Tasteful jazz brass samples throughout. This is definitely one that i would love to hear out yet also could enjoy just on the ipod. Great tune.

Thinking Of You – Atmospheric intro again using jazz sax samples, Lots of energy in this one. Bouncy little bass melody that makes you wanna move and really well used vocal samples adding a lot of character to the tune.

All in all a great release. Limited White labels though so i wouldnt hang about. would be a shame to miss out. Really looking forward to more output from these 2 in the future and also more on the Downtime label.

Welcome to Fractured Sounds

Ez everyone. Thanks for visiting my new blog. I thought it would be fun to start this blog to basically vent my views and opinions on anything to do with the great genre that is Drum & Bass. I can tell that I bore most of my friends to death about it but there must be someone out there who actually does want to read up about any forthcoming releases or artists etc. Please get in touch if you are interested in anything i am talking about or want me to post about something as it would be cool to know that someone out there is reading!
